It’s handled! Olivia Pope is cutting out a little early. Scandal’s Season 3 has been shortened, TVLine reports. The Shonda Rhimes created series will now only film 18 episodes this year, compared to the original episode order of 22. The reason? It’s speculated that Kerry Washington’s spring due date may have something to do with it.
Us Weekly exclusively broke news in October that the 36-year-old actress was expecting her first child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha. “She’s about four months along,” an insider told Us at the time.
Washington and the NFL player secretly married on June 24 in Hailey, Idaho. Since then, the Emmy-nominated star has kept mum about both her pregnancy and her love life.
No further information was immediately available on the decision to trim back Scandal’s episode order. Nine episodes remain in the season, including next week’s fall finale.
