Estimated loss from fire at Jamaica National Children’s Home placed at $150-million

The Jamaica Fire Brigade has estimated the loss from yesterday’s fire at Jamaica National Children’s Home in Papine, St Andrew at $150 million.
The cause has not yet been determined.
The fire, which started sometime before 6 o’clock, destroyed one of the dormitories. Forty one children at the facility have been displaced, however, there were no reports of  injury .
Superintendent in charge of the Kingston & St Andrew fire department Julian Davis Buckle says 40 fire fighters battled the blaze until shortly after 11pm on Friday.
The children’s home accommodates 86 children. 
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who was at the children’s home last night, said those who were dislocated, will be temporarily placed at another facility.
He also said that the incident was different from similar fire scenes visited in the past, where the children were traumatised. He added that consideration will also be given to remodeling Children’s homes.
