National Dish Of The Caribbean


When visiting Jamaica, one of the must-try dishes is the national dish, Ackee and Saltfish. It is the most popular among the guests and is available as part of the taste of Jamaica dish during breakfast time.

 

Salt Fish and Ackee, or Ackee and Saltfish as some people say, can be eaten anytime, but it is very common to have it for Breakfast or Brunch.

It can be accompanied by a wide variety of other local foods … boiled Green Banana, Festival, Yam, Fried Ripe Plantain, Avocado, Hard-dough Bread, and/or Roast Breadfruit. Eat it with anything you wish … or just eat it by itself.  To prepare the dish, salt cod is sautéed with boiled ackee, onions, Scotch Bonnet peppers, tomatoes and spices. It is usually served as breakfast or dinner alongside breadfruit, hard dough bread, dumplings, fried plantain, or boiled green bananas. Ackee and Saltfish can also be eaten with rice and peas or plain white rice.
