Thief snatches £3.5k in Wolverhampton city centre robbery

A shop worker taking almost £3,500 in takings to bank at the post office had the money snatched from him in a daylight robbery in Wolverhampton city centre.

The 23-year-old male employee was just yards from the post office in Lichfield Street when a man approached from over his shoulder and ripped the bag from his grasp.

The thief ran off towards the city’s central bus station but was caught on CCTV camera as he fled.

Police have released footage, which shows the robber − a stocky black man, around 6ft tall, with receding dark hair and a scruffy beard − clutching the cash bag to his chest and with a distinctive JD Sports draw-string bag, featuring a St George cross, over his back.
