In London, Christian Wijnants wins the International Woolmark Prize
For the International Woolmark Prize 2013 held at the ME Hotel, Belgian designer Christian Wijnants won the international wool competition.
This weekend, all eyes were fixed on London not only for the beginning of London Fashion Week marked by collections presented by Matthew Williamson and Vivienne Westwood Red Label, but also for the International Woolmark Prize global final. Originating from the four corners of the world, the six final designers had already won the regional competitions last year held in Europe, Australia, China, Japan, India and the United States. This time around, there was only one prize to give which was won by Belgian designer Christian Wijnants. First discovered during the Hyères Festival in 2001 where he took home the Grand Prize, the 30-something designer who has also won the Swiss Textile Award in 2005 and the French ANDAM Fashion Award in 2006, presented a collection of knits which caught the attention and admiration of the jury made up of Victoria Beckham, Donatella Versace, Franca Sozzani and Diane Van Fürstenberg.
Christian Wijnants was also awarded €80,000 and will see his collection available in some of the most renowned shops worldwide including Harvey Nichols in London, Bergdorf Goodman in New York City and Corso Como in Milan.
